“Nigerians must go because you can’t be in someone’s country and be doing anyhow,” a protester shouted in viral footage from Accra.
Dozens of Ghanaians took to the streets on Tuesday demanding the expulsion of Nigerians from the country over allegations of ritual killings, kidnapping, and mass prostitution.
In a viral video, protesters held placards with inscriptions such as “Nigerians are kidnapping and using people for rituals,” and “Our health at stake due to mass prostitution.”
A photo of a man allegedly murdered by a Nigerian in Accra was also displayed.
“Nigerians must go because you can’t be in someone’s country and be doing anyhow,” a female protester shouted.
Another man accused Nigerians—particularly Igbos—of dominating local markets and disobeying Ghanaian laws. “They even have an Igbo king in Ghana. It is just a matter of time; we will conquer them and take over our country,” he said.
The Ghanaian government has not officially commented on the protest.
The incident echoes memories of Nigeria’s 1983 “Ghana Must Go” deportation, when President Shehu Shagari expelled over two million undocumented immigrants, mostly Ghanaians.
