A global study by King’s College London measuring 15,000 men in 16 countries found the average erect penis length is 5.6 inches, aiming to reassure men about normal size and address related psychological worries.

A comprehensive international study has determined that the average length of an erect penis is 5.6 inches (13.12cm), offering reassurance to men concerned about size, researchers at King’s College London announced.

Scientists measured 15,000 men across 16 countries, recording both flaccid and erect dimensions to compile what they describe as the most accurate global data on male genital size. The study found that in a state of rest, the average length is 3.6 inches.

Lead psychiatrist Dr. David Veale explained that the findings will help doctors counsel men experiencing anxiety over their body image. “I would use the graphs to examine the discrepancy between what a man believes to be their position on the graph and their actual position,” he said.

Social commentator Martin Letts noted that while the research is “ground-breaking,” it also invites humorous speculation about the measuring process and its necessity. “I seriously doubt that many men are much concerned by these readings,” he remarked, adding that most men would quietly compare themselves out of curiosity.

The study also highlights body dysmorphic disorder, a condition where individuals develop a distorted view of their appearance, sometimes believing their penis is inadequately sized. Researchers hope the data will dispel myths and reduce unnecessary anxiety.

Despite society’s preoccupation, Letts questioned whether size truly matters, observing, “Are women really so concerned with measurements than size – namely love?”
