Abia State Governor Alex Otti has firmly denied plans to defect from Labour Party to APC, calling such reports “false and baseless.”
Governor Alex Otti has dismissed rumors of an impending defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), maintaining his loyalty to the Labour Party that brought him to power. Through his media aide Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti denied holding any political meeting with Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma, clarifying their recent interaction was purely social – attending Uzodinma’s twins’ birthday celebration after a National Economic Council meeting.
The governor described the defection speculation as politically motivated, urging focus on governance rather than 2027 politics. “Governor Otti’s political decisions…would at all times be taken in conjunction with majority of Abians,” Ekeoma stated, emphasizing any move would prioritize Abia’s interests. Otti warned against overheating the polity barely two years into his administration.
