Critics accuse Governor Mbah of using Smart School projects as a cover for looting public funds.
Governor Peter Mbah’s administration is facing mounting criticism over an alleged N11 billion Smart School contract controversy. A statement from Enugu’s Commissioner for Information, Malachy Agbo, claimed that contractor Sijibomi Ogundele defrauded the state of N5.7 billion meant for school construction.
“It was discovered that whereas he presented a bond from Jaiz Bank, he used Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited’s Zenith Bank account to receive the said payment,” the statement read.
Critics argue this raises questions about the government’s transparency and adherence to due process. Allegations suggest the contract was awarded without proper checks, fueling perceptions that major projects under Governor Mbah are designed to siphon funds.
The development has sparked outrage on social media, with residents questioning why the administration prioritizes building 260 new Smart Schools while existing schools remain in deplorable condition.
As pressure mounts, calls are growing for a probe and prosecution of those involved in the deal.
