Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended 85 top government officials, including 25 commissioners and 22 permanent secretaries, over what he described as negligence of duty.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, the affected officials are to proceed on a one-month suspension without salary and are barred from signing any official documents during the period. Commissioners are also expected to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.

According to Uzor, “Governor Francis Nwifuru has directed that the under listed Government functionaries proceed on one month working suspension without Salary for failure to attend an important Government Function.”

The suspended officials span various arms of government: 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries. This action underscores the governor’s stance on accountability and discipline in public service, as names of all affected persons were made public in the statement.
