Stakeholders must collaborate to expand facilities and train more medical professionals

At the commissioning of Block C of the new students’ hostel at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI), key Nigerian leaders urged foreign-based doctors to invest their expertise in Nigeria’s health sector to reduce medical tourism.

The facility was donated by Dr. Philip Ozuah, a 1985 alumnus, physician, and CEO of Montefiore Medicine, USA.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Alausa, Minister of Health Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and NIDCOM Chair Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa praised Ozuah’s generosity and urged others in the diaspora to follow suit.

Makinde and Mbah, represented by deputies Bayo Lawal and Ifeanyi Ossai, highlighted the value of alumni support.

Lawal stressed: “Stakeholders must collaborate to expand facilities and train more medical professionals.”

They pledged support for diaspora contributions, emphasizing that “institutions all over the world live on the strength of alumni generosity.”
