Maximo Londonio, 42, who moved to the U.S. at age 12 and has lived there since 1997, was reportedly flagged due to a 2002 felony conviction for grand theft, for which he served seven months in a California jail.
“Max had previous nonviolent convictions… and has satisfied all requirements,” advocacy group Tanggol Migrante WA told Newsweek. “Max is yet another victim of the Trump Administration’s attacks on migrants.”
A CBP spokesperson said that all foreign nationals are “subject to inspection” and that legal permanent residents can lose their status for crimes involving moral turpitude, including grand theft.
Londonio is being held at the Northwest Detention Center, awaiting a hearing. His wife, Crystal, criticized the delay, saying, “You failed me.” The IAM union also called for his release. A rally is scheduled Friday in Tacoma to demand the release of detained residents.
