Grimsby Town stunned Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, winning 12-11 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw at Blundell Park. Charles Vernam opened the scoring before Tyrell Warren doubled Grimsby’s lead against Ruben Amorim’s struggling side.
United rallied late, with Bryan Mbeumo pulling one back and Harry Maguire heading home in the 88th minute to force spot-kicks. The shootout saw Clarke Oduor’s miss cancelled out when Christy Pym saved Matheus Cunha’s effort.
Both sides converted flawlessly until Mbeumo struck the crossbar, sparking jubilant celebrations in the rain as the League Two side advanced to the third round. The result leaves United still searching for their first win of the season.
