Social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, was arrested Friday in Abuja on orders allegedly initiated by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, told SaharaReporters the arrest followed Otse’s complaints about unauthorised debits from his mother’s account.
“My client, VeryDarkMan, was arrested today in Abuja by the Nigerian police. His only offence was speaking out about suspicious and repeated debits from his mother’s GTBank account for loans she never took,” Adeyanju said.
The influencer had earlier posted evidence of multiple deductions from the account and said GTBank staff were “cooperating.”
In a related April 14 report, customer Ariyo Adewale also accused GTBank of triggering his arrest after he protested a ₦2 million debit, allegedly linked to Jumia transactions he denies authorising.
GTBank is yet to officially respond.
