Gunmen killed eight NSCDC officers and a driver in Edo State while abducting a Chinese expatriate working with BUA Cement.

Gunmen have killed eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and a civilian driver during an ambush in Edo State. The attack occurred on Friday night, September 5, 2025, along the Okpella–Agenebode axis while officers were escorting a Chinese national working with BUA Cement Company, who was abducted.

In a statement on Saturday, the NSCDC said, “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) regrets to announce the unfortunate incident that occurred on Friday, 5th September 2025, at about 2230hrs, along the Okpella–Agenebode axis, Edo State.”

The corps confirmed that 12 personnel were on escort duty, with three survivors currently receiving treatment. Among the deceased was Chief Corps Assistant Oluwatosin Sunday of the Ondo Command.

Describing the incident as a “grievous loss,” the NSCDC vowed to rescue the kidnapped victim and bring the perpetrators to justice. “May the souls of our gallant officers rest in peace,” it added.
