A man accused of murdering a teenage boy in Hainault allegedly killed and skinned his own cat before the attack, a court has heard.

Marcus Arduini Monzo, a Spanish-Brazilian national, is charged with the murder of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin on April 30, 2024, while the boy was “simply walking to school, minding his own business,” according to prosecutors.

Opening the case at the Old Bailey, Tom Little KC said Monzo inflicted a “devastating and unsurvivable” injury using “severe” and “extreme” force. Prior to the rampage, Monzo allegedly killed and deboned his pet cat at his Newham home. Police found cannabis and a knife stained with non-human blood in his van.

“A sample of blood staining was taken from the blade which indicated that it was not human blood,” Little told jurors.

Monzo is also accused of attempting to murder four other people, including Donato Iwule, who he allegedly ran over in a van.
