A 24-year-old Lagos resident, Paul Odu, has accused his father of killing his mother, Temitope, through a brutal assault a day after she returned from her call-to-bar ceremony, calling for full justice for her death.

A 24-year-old Lagos resident, Paul Odu, has accused his father of murdering his mother, Temitope Odu, shortly after she returned from her call-to-bar ceremony in Abuja.

Speaking with The PUNCH, Paul alleged that his father, a printer, had a long history of domestic violence and beat his mother to death following a heated argument on October 14.

According to Paul, his father often accused his mother of infidelity and verbally abused her. “He called my mum all sorts of despicable names, including a prostitute,” he said. “When I tried to defend her, he turned on me and beat me with plywood.”

Temitope, a civil servant who recently became a lawyer after studying at the National Open University, reportedly complained of body pains after the assault and died the next morning. “She told me to get her some pap and rice, but when I went back to check on her, she was cold,” Paul recounted.

The suspect was initially detained at a nearby police station but later released before being re-arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.

Paul’s uncle, Gbeyi Olorunfunmi, expressed regret for not urging his sister to leave the abusive marriage earlier. “We tried to intervene, but he never changed,” he said.

The family has vowed to pursue legal action. “Whatever punishment the court gives him is fine with me,” Paul stated. “He should be punished.”
