Following the judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the case involving IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, security around the Abia State Government House, Umuahia, was visibly heightened.
Heavily armed police officers were stationed at both the main entrance and exit gates of the complex, drawing the attention of pedestrians and motorists. The deployment appeared aimed at forestalling any potential unrest, as Kanu’s country home is located nearby.
Despite the increased security, the city remained calm, though residents discussed the court’s decision in subdued tones. Some individuals expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, while others openly disagreed, but “the situation remained peaceful without any reported disturbances.”
