ADC State Chairmen Slam David Mark-Led Coalition, Describe Move As โ€˜Civilian Juntaโ€™

The crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) deepened on Tuesday as state chairmen of the party issued a scathing condemnation of a coalition led by former Senate President, Senator David Mark.

In a statement jointly signed by the forum leader, Elias Adokwu, and Publicity Secretary, Godwin Alaku, the chairmen described the development as a โ€œblatant and reckless subversionโ€ of both the party and Nigeriaโ€™s democratic principles.

They accused the coalition of plotting an unconstitutional hijack of the ADC through โ€œmanipulation and backdoor dealings,โ€ warning that the move was a disguise for selfish ambition.

The chairmen stressed that the party would not be used as a vehicle for โ€œpolitical mercenaries or ideological impostors.โ€


Tinubuโ€™s Administration A โ€˜Total Disasterโ€™ โ€” Waziri

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, has described President Bola Tinubuโ€™s administration as a โ€œtotal disaster.โ€

Speaking in an interview, Waziri said Tinubuโ€™s leadership had performed worse than the much-criticised government of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He warned that the country was sliding dangerously into deeper crises, calling on Nigerians to brace for harder times if urgent measures were not taken.


Troops Kill 17 Boko Haram Terrorists In Borno, Adamawa

Troops of the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have killed 17 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during clearance operations in Borno and Adamawa states.

Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, said in a statement that the terrorists had been operating in Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Magumeri, and Biu LGAs of Borno State, as well as Michika in Adamawa.

He assured that the military remains committed to restoring peace to the troubled region.


Heavy Rainfall Causes Flash Floods Across Lagos

Residents, commuters, and traders in Lagos were stranded on Monday as flash floods swept through several communities following heavy overnight rainfall.

The downpour, which began Sunday night and persisted into Monday, caused severe flooding on the Island and Mainland, disrupting transportation and crippling economic activities across Nigeriaโ€™s commercial hub.

Many residents reported damage to homes and shops, with traffic gridlock compounding the chaos.


Capital Importation Rises 67% To $5.6bn In Q1 2025

Nigeria recorded a 67.12 per cent increase in capital importation year-on-year, reaching $5.642 billion in the first quarter of 2025, up from $3.376 billion in Q1 2024.

Quarter-on-quarter, capital importation rose by 10.86 per cent compared to $5.0916 billion recorded in Q4 2024.

Analysts say the rise signals growing investor confidence despite the countryโ€™s economic challenges.


NCDC: 155 Dead From Lassa Fever In 2025

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said on Tuesday that the country has recorded 155 deaths from Lassa fever between January 1 and July 20, 2025.

The Case Fatality Rate now stands at 18.9 per cent, higher than the 17.1 per cent recorded during the same period in 2024.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to maintain good hygiene and avoid contact with rodents, which spread the disease.


Benue Governor Orders 48-Hour Ultimatum Over Killings

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has given security agencies 48 hours to identify and arrest the killers of two young men in Gwer East Local Government Area.

One of the victims was a newlywed.

The governor condemned the killings, saying they were โ€œan affront to peace and security in the state.โ€


Labour Party Disowns Planned INEC Protest

The national leadership of the Labour Party has dissociated itself from a protest scheduled for Wednesday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement, Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, said the party had no connection with the protest.

He added that the LP remained committed to peaceful democratic engagement.


Six Killed As Building Collapses In Katsina

At least six persons have died after a building collapsed during a heavy downpour in Dankama Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday while the victims, including a mother and her five children, were asleep.

Authorities said rescue operations were ongoing.


Benue Assembly Suspends Five Lawmakers

The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended five members for three legislative sittings for allegedly withholding vital information.

They were accused of giving incomplete details in a report on the investigation of alleged financial misconduct by Otukpo LGA Chairman, Maxwell Ogiri.

โ€˜Most Wantedโ€™ Killer Olori Eso Remanded In Kirikiri Prison

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned notorious criminal Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, before the Ogba Magistrate Court.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said Akinwande, 44, was arrested in Ogun State during a tactical operation and charged with murder and unlawful possession of firearms.

He has been remanded in Kirikiri prison until September 4, 2025.


Iyabo Ojo Petitions NSA Over Police Misconduct

Actress Iyabo Ojo has petitioned the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alleging misconduct by officers of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPFโ€‘NCC).
