An Arizona man, 69, died after falling near Alaska’s Mendenhall Glacier, with searchers recovering his body Monday.
An Arizona man has died after falling near the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska’s capital city, authorities confirmed.
Alaska State Troopers said the body of Thomas Casey, 69, was discovered around 5 p.m. Monday. He had last been seen Saturday morning, and officials were notified of an overdue hiker the following day.
Troopers said Casey left no details of his intended route or when he planned to return. Using cellphone location data, search teams located his body off a trail near the glacier.
Casey’s remains are being sent to the state medical examiner’s office for review.
Juneau police reported that Casey had been spending the summer in the city. In July, a Kentucky woman on a cruise stop in Juneau was also found dead after failing to return from a hike.
