The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that 14-year-old Kehinde Alade was fatally hit by a stray bullet during a joint traffic operation in Gbagi, Ibadan. The teenager, accompanied by his father and twin brother, was en route to write his WASSCE exam when the incident occurred Tuesday morning. Police spokesperson Adewale Osifeso stated officers were attempting to stop a vehicle driving against traffic when the tragedy unfolded.

Osifeso explained that the driver, later identified as the victim’s father, allegedly accelerated toward officers, ramming into traffic vehicles. “In an effort to immobilize the vehicle, a police corporal discharged a firearm aimed at the tyres,” he said. “Tragically, the bullet missed and struck Kehinde Alade seated in the rear.”

The police claimed they suspected “possible criminal activity” due to the driver’s refusal to stop. The incident has sparked outrage as investigations continue. Kehinde was reportedly a promising student preparing for his crucial final secondary school exams.
