Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), revealed on Wednesday that he almost resigned due to the pressure from technical glitches during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Oloyede said his initial reaction was to step down, but he was advised against it, as it would appear he was abandoning students during a critical time. “When this happened, my first reaction was to resign, but people advised me that the students will never forgive you because it will look like you have abandoned them,” he stated.

Oloyede dismissed allegations of a conspiracy against candidates from the South-East and Lagos, where the glitches were most severe. He emphasized that the UTME is a placement test, not a measure of intelligence, and its purpose is to rank candidates for limited admission slots. “There was no deliberate attempt to undermine any region,” he insisted .
