Oluwafemi Opesusi, Faith’s father, said his distraught daughter took a liquid substance that led to her death after checking her result.
A Lagos teenager, Faith Opesusi, committed suicide after scoring 146 in the 2025 UTME, a drastic drop from her previous year’s performance. Her father, Oluwafemi, revealed she aspired to study Microbiology but was devastated by the result. “The pain drove her to suicide,” he told BBC, noting JAMB never released her original scores.
JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede tearfully admitted on May 14 that technical errors compromised results for 380,000 candidates across 157 centers. The confession came amid nationwide protests after 78% of candidates scored below 200/400. Faith’s death has intensified scrutiny of the examination’s credibility.
