Yilwatda’s emergence follows a late‑night meeting in Abuja between President Tinubu and APC governors.
Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda has emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the resignation of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on health grounds. His nomination was ratified during the 14th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Sources reveal that his emergence followed a late‑night meeting in Abuja between President Bola Tinubu and APC governors, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum reportedly endorsed the president’s nomination without opposition. Stakeholders from the North‑Central zone pushed for a return of the chairmanship slot to the region, originally zoned to it, and for a Christian candidate to balance the Muslim‑Muslim ticket.
“He is young, suave, well‑educated, and doesn’t carry the usual political baggage,” a senior party official said. “We believe he can give the party a new face and restore credibility ahead of future elections.”
In his acceptance remarks, Yilwatda pledged unity and teamwork, declaring: “We will fix it, drive it, this party will be the joy and the pride and the light of the entire nation.”
