Bala Mohammed says he is willing to run as Seyi Makinde’s deputy in 2027 if the PDP adopts such a ticket, stressing unity, zoning, and credibility over ambition.
Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared readiness to serve as vice-presidential candidate to Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, in the 2027 election if endorsed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Channels Television, the PDP Governors’ Forum chairman said the party had learnt lessons from its 2023 defeat and would emphasize unity and zoning. “If the party and our presidential candidate from the South choose me, I am ready. If not, I will support whoever emerges,” he stated.
Mohammed said PDP’s decision to keep the 2023 ticket open cost it victory. He stressed that a southern Christian with a northern Muslim deputy would better reflect Nigeria’s diversity.
On reports of a Makinde–Mohammed ticket, he noted no formal talks had been held but maintained, “What matters is presenting a credible candidate who can defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.”
He also confirmed PDP’s outreach to Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi as possible flagbearers.
