“This is part of efforts to discredit me and silence dissenting voices critical of the federal government,” Tambuwal alleged.
Former Sokoto State Governor and serving Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has alleged political motives behind his recent detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Speaking after his release, Tambuwal said he honoured the EFCC’s invitation on August 6 and returned for further questioning on August 10 and 11. He claimed the agency insisted on two Federal Civil Service directors as sureties before granting bail, despite his request for release on self-recognition.
The senator said he spent a night in custody before meeting the conditions, describing the probe as part of a campaign to discredit him.
Tambuwal accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of shielding loyalists from scrutiny and vowed to remain aligned with what he called “the people of Nigeria” against the Tinubu administration.
