Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports that he will step aside in the 2027 presidential race, insisting his comments were misrepresented.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has debunked reports claiming he plans to step down for another candidate in the 2027 presidential election. In a statement issued on Thursday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku said comments made during a BBC Hausa interview were misinterpreted by sections of the media.
“After a thorough review of both the video and transcripts of the interview… it is evident that at no point did the former Vice President expressly state, suggest, or even imply that he intends to step down for anyone,” the statement said.
According to Ibe, Atiku merely stated that young politicians and other aspirants are free to contest and that he would support any youth who emerges through a credible primary.
He cautioned against “stretching interpretation to the point of mischief,” insisting that insinuations suggesting his withdrawal from the race are inaccurate.
