“A little awareness and maintenance can make your laptop feel like new again.”
Many laptop users unknowingly develop habits that degrade their device’s performance. A recent report by XDA Developers identifies ten common behaviors that can slow down laptops, some of which users may overlook. These include installing apps without care, letting too many programs load at startup, and ignoring system updates. “Rushing through app installations can lead to unnecessary programs launching at startup,” the report states.
Filling up storage, especially on SSDs, is another culprit. “Windows needs space to operate efficiently,” the report explains. Users also often delay antivirus scans or download software from untrusted sources, increasing the risk of malware. Poor ventilation and dust buildup further threaten hardware longevity.
To avoid these issues, experts recommend regularly updating software, reviewing startup apps, and freeing up disk space. Physical maintenance—such as cleaning air vents—can also go a long way. “A little awareness and maintenance can make your laptop feel like new again,” the report concludes.
