On a visit to South Africa, she said, “We were there for four hours… I was embarrassed to see my brothers. I can’t even describe the situation.”
The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has expressed dismay over the increasing number of Nigerians arrested for drug trafficking abroad.
Speaking on Arise TV on Sunday, Dabiri-Erewa described incidents in Indonesia and South Africa as “embarrassing.”
“We had 21 Nigerians on death row. We went to the Indonesian prison and begged them; they said, ‘No, our law is law.’ Four were executed,” she said. “Out of 21 of them, 20 were from one state in the South-East. The other one is from Edo State.”
On a visit to South Africa, she said, “We were there for four hours… I was embarrassed to see my brothers. I can’t even describe the situation.”
While addressing anti-Igbo protests in Ghana, she emphasised, “Crime has no federal character.”
Dabiri-Erewa urged foreign nations to prosecute guilty individuals but cautioned against stigmatising all Nigerians.
“Only the bad stories trend,” she added. “Thousands of Nigerians are making positive contributions abroad.”
