After a five-month closure for modernization, the Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan has resumed operations, receiving its first flight on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. The aircraft, part of the presidential fleet, landed at 9:14 am.
Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, spokesperson for Governor Seyi Makinde, said the airport is now ready to handle high-profile flights safely.
He noted President Bola Tinubu will arrive on Friday for the coronation of the 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Governor Makinde had launched the upgrade in September 2024, promising improved connectivity for trade and tourism.
The project included a new VIP lounge, fire truck, and a 500,000-litre aviation fuel facility, aimed at boosting economic growth and positioning Oyo State for international travel.
