Some alleged police officers and OYRTMA, while casing Yahoo boys, and others said while chasing traffic law offenders, started shooting indiscriminately and bullet hit this little boy and killed him.

Angry youths in Ibadan stormed the Oyo State Government Secretariat on Tuesday, demanding justice after a secondary school student was killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a policeman. The victim, who was en route to write his WAEC exam with his father and sibling near Gbagi market, died upon arrival at Welfare Hospital. Witnesses claimed the officer was pursuing a suspect when the fatal shot was fired.

Protesters carried the student’s body to the secretariat, calling on Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene. Comrade Yemi Ezekiel Bello of SPANCI condemned the incident, urging the Inspector General of Police to investigate. “Police and OYRTMA officers were allegedly chasing traffic offenders or ‘Yahoo boys’ when they fired indiscriminately,” Bello stated.

The incident has reignited concerns over police use of firearms, with residents demanding accountability. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement as tensions remain high in the area.
