Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the killing of Brigadier General M. Uba, calling for tougher military action against terrorists.
Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar has condemned the killing of Brigadier General M. Uba, describing it as a tragic indication of worsening insecurity in the country. According to a report from THECABLE, Uba was allegedly killed by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters following an ambush on a military convoy transporting equipment along Damboa Road, near Wajiroko in Borno state.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, targeted soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). Atiku, reacting on Tuesday through a post on X, accused President Bola Tinubu of prioritising political battles over his responsibilities as commander-in-chief.
He criticised what he called the government’s failure to provide clarity on the incident, noting initial denials from military authorities. “General Musa’s death, along with the loss of troops under his command, is one death too many and signals a bold terrorist resurgence that Nigeria cannot afford,” he said.
The former vice-president added that if he were in office, he would immediately order the military to occupy any state under terrorist or bandit siege until the areas are fully secured. He urged President Tinubu to “either ask for help or resign” if unable to address the growing security challenges.
Atiku encouraged Nigerians and military personnel to remain hopeful, saying “even this season shall pass away.”
