“I do not and cannot pretend that what was delivered amounts to justice,” Ighodalo said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2024 Edo governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has expressed profound disappointment over the Supreme Court’s ruling against his bid, describing the judgment as a betrayal of democratic ideals.
Reacting in a statement issued Thursday in Abuja, Ighodalo said although he accepted the finality of the apex court’s decision, he could not pretend it amounted to justice.
“I do not and cannot pretend that what was delivered amounts to justice,” he declared.
He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and unnamed actors of orchestrating what he called a “coordinated, deliberate” electoral heist.
“Like you, I feel a deep sense of betrayal,” Ighodalo told supporters. “Not just by those who rigged the process, but by the very institutions we trusted to protect our democracy.”
He added, “You voted for competence, for progress, for prosperity and now, we are told that your voice does not matter.”
Ighodalo vowed to continue advocating for electoral integrity despite the outcome.
