The Federal High Court in Osogbo has ordered the Inspector General of Police to arrest former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu for contempt of court.
The Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest former INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, for contempt of court.
The order came hours after Yakubu vacated office. The Action Alliance (AA) had filed a case accusing INEC and its former chairman of disregarding a 2024 court judgment that recognised Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the party’s national chairman.
Justice Funmilola Demi-Ajayi had directed INEC to upload the names of Omoaje and other National Executive Committee members on its portal. Although INEC claimed compliance, Omoaje’s name remains absent, prompting the new ruling.
The latest order dated October 7, 2025, and signed by Court Registrar O.M. Kilani, reads: “It is hereby ordered that the Inspector General of Police shall cause the arrest and shall charge the defendant/judgment debtors for contempt and committal proceedings within seven days of this ruling.”
