I’m vindicated by PDP zoning decision, says Wike

Wike says PDP’s new zoning decision vindicates his 2022 stand against northern dominance.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday said the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to zone the 2027 presidency to the South and retain its national chairmanship in the North has vindicated his earlier position.

His Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement that the move confirmed the stance of Wike and the G-5 governors during the 2022 crisis. “Now, that the party has realised its mistake of not listening to Wike and the G-5 in 2022, and have chosen to do what they said, three years after, have they not been vindicated now?” he asked.

The G-5 had argued that the PDP could not have both its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and then-national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, from the North. Wike maintained the refusal to shift positions cost the party the 2023 election.

“They have realised the mistake they made in 2022 and are correcting it in 2025,” Olayinka added.
