”Instead of getting help from the hospital, the man that appeared like a doctor demanded for a police report before treating my child”.
A 20-month-old child, Emmanuel Eleweke, has died after being struck by a stray bullet at his family’s home in Umuoba-Uratta, Owerri North LGA of Imo State. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Monday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Emmanuel, the third child of Mr. and Mrs. Okechukwu Eleweke, was reportedly playing with his mother on the bed moments before the fatal shot.
Narrating the ordeal, Mrs. Kelechi Eleweke said, “I was with him yesterday (Monday) night on my bed after dinner and night prayer… Suddenly, he rolled down from my body… A few seconds later, I heard a huge sound… The next thing I saw was blood all over his body and the bed.” She rushed outside for help while her husband tried to secure medical assistance.
The couple’s attempt to get immediate care failed as a private hospital allegedly demanded a police report before treatment.
