India has repatriated 270 citizens from Thailand following a Myanmar raid on cyber-scam centers, with hundreds more set to return next week.
The Indian government has repatriated the first batch of its nationals who fled to Thailand from Myanmar after a military raid on a notorious online scam hub, according to media reporting. Two Indian Air Force aircraft flew 270 people, including 26 women, from the Thai border town of Mae Sot on Thursday.
The Embassy of India in Bangkok and the Consulate in Chiang Mai coordinated the operation alongside Thai authorities, the Indian mission said on X. It warned citizens to “verify employment proposals before taking up job offers abroad.”
Officials confirmed that 465 Indians are expected to be repatriated, with the remaining set to leave Thailand next Monday.
Myanmar’s KK Park cyber center, raided in mid-October, reportedly triggered the flight of more than 1,500 foreign nationals, including Indians. According to an AP report, scam networks across Southeast Asia steal tens of billions annually. Indians lost an estimated $820 million to such scams in the first five months of 2025, the Indian Express reported. Earlier this year, 549 Indians trapped in similar centers were also rescued and returned home.
