Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) recently bought one million barrels of Agbami crude for September delivery, while Bharat Petroleum secured additional Nigerian cargoes through spot deals.
India’s state refiners are shifting away from Russian crude and increasing imports of Nigerian oil, marking a significant realignment in global energy sourcing. More than two million barrels of Nigerian crude are expected to arrive in India between September and October 2025, according to Reuters .
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) bought one million barrels of Agbami crude for September delivery in a tender awarded to global trader Trafigura . Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has also secured additional Nigerian cargoes through spot deals .
These purchases form part of a broader trend following India’s halt of Russian crude imports in late July, under pressure from Washington. IOC has complemented its Nigerian purchases by acquiring cargoes from Angola, the U.S., Brazil, Libya, and Abu Dhabi.
