The electoral body listed 110 associations applying for registration, noting missing documentation and duplicate leadership structures.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday published a list of 110 associations applying to become political parties, raising concerns over irregularities in several submissions.

Among the groups is the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), reportedly backed by top politicians including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi. Another, the Obedient People’s Party, is said to be supported by followers of Peter Obi.

INEC flagged multiple infractions: 40 submissions lacked a Protem Secretary, five had no Chairman, seven had neither, and one lacked a logo. Some groups used identical acronyms, while three listed the same individuals as executives. Two separate applications were filed under the Republican Party of Nigeria with different leaderships.

Chairman Mahmood Yakubu emphasized that INEC will apply legal and procedural guidelines in screening the requests.

He assured Nigerians that transparency will guide the process, with the full list uploaded to INEC’s website, and updates provided at every step.
