WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has denied authoring a viral post attacking President Tinubu, calling it fake and promising legal action against the impersonators.
Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has disowned a viral social media post falsely attributed to her, which criticised President Bola Tinubu’s handling of insecurity.
According to PUNCH reporting, the post titled “Trump didn’t ‘hit’ us – our leaders did” claimed that Okonjo-Iweala accused Nigerian leaders of neglecting the fight against insurgency while engaging in rhetoric.
Reacting via her verified X handle on Saturday, Okonjo-Iweala described the message as “fake” and “malicious,” stressing that it did not originate from her. “Beware, this story going around on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook is false! We are taking action! The person who did this could not even spell my name,” she wrote.
She further condemned the impersonation, warning that legal steps were being taken against those responsible. “Whichever coward did this should write the message in their own name and not hide behind mine or anyone else’s! Scammers and 419ers, stop!” she added.
Her clarification comes amid heightened debate over U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to “go in guns blazing” over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
President Tinubu has since reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to religious freedom and national unity.
