A viral video by Alex Iwobi showing the surroundings of the Super Eagles’ hotel in Morocco has triggered mixed reactions about the team’s accommodation for the 2026 World Cup playoff.

A viral video posted by Nigerian footballer Alex Iwobi has sparked controversy over the Rive Hotel in Rabat, Morocco, where the Super Eagles are staying for their 2026 World Cup playoff, according to a report from PEOPLES GAZETTE.

In the video, Iwobi captured the surroundings of the hotel, prompting Nigerians on social media to criticise the environment and compare it to dilapidated police barracks in Nigeria. The backlash placed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under scrutiny for the players’ accommodation choice.

A Super Eagles official confirmed to Peoples Gazette that the team is indeed lodged at the Rive Hotel but clarified that “it is only the surrounding area of the facility that looks awful.”

Rive Hotel, a four-floor 4-star property in Rabat’s Hassan district, offers amenities including a restaurant, gym, bar, valet service, and easy tram access. Rooms cost between $107 and $244, with hotels.com giving it a 6.2/10 rating, though reviews are mixed—some guests praised its cleanliness, while others complained of sleepless nights caused by noise from the hotel’s nightclub and occasional lapses in breakfast service.

Iwobi later clarified that his video was not a complaint, saying, “Life is all about perspective… some people don’t have beds, so I’m comfy.”
