A coalition of South-Easterners in the United States is mobilising for a mass protest in Washington, D.C., to oppose the visit of a high-level Nigerian government delegation.
According to Sahara Reporters reporting on November 3, 2025, a coalition of South-Easterners in the United States is organizing a mass, peaceful protest in Washington, D.C., to challenge a high-level Nigerian government delegation’s visit aimed at polishing the country’s international image.
In a statement by Comrade Emma Powerful, the media and publicity secretary for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the group accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of attempting to deceive the international community about “peace, justice, and religious freedom,” despite what it described as “ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, and mass killings.” Powerful asserted, “We say no! We will not allow the same government presiding over ethnic cleansing… to rewrite the narrative while the victims are still bleeding.”
The protest seeks to align with former U.S. President Donald Trump, who previously designated Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN,” due to his assertion that “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria.” Trump had further warned that the U.S. military might come “guns-a-blazing” if the killings continued. While the Nigerian government denied genocide claims, the protestors were urged to unite, with Powerful concluding, “No diplomatic lies can cover mass graves.”
