Iran may achieve uranium enrichment in months, UN agency warns

Despite recent joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Grossi stated, “One cannot claim that everything has disappeared and there is nothing there.”

Iran could resume uranium enrichment in a matter of months, according to Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“They can have,… in a matter of months, I would say, a few cascades of centrifuges spinning and producing enriched uranium,” Grossi told CBS News on Saturday.

Despite recent joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Grossi stated, “One cannot claim that everything has disappeared and there is nothing there.”

On June 22, President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes on Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, saying Iran’s nuclear program was “totally obliterated.” However, a leaked Pentagon assessment suggested only a few months’ setback.

During an interview, Trump said, “Iran cannot have the nuclear weapon and they were weeks away from having it.”

Iran has denied lasting damage, though Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi admitted “excessive and serious” impacts. Tehran has suspended ties with the IAEA, accusing bias.

Grossi, however, expressed hope: “We will have to have a long-lasting solution, which cannot be but a diplomatic one.”
