Iranian activist Mahnoush Abdollahi sentenced to nine years, six suspended, for alleged support of Israel and anti-state propaganda.
SHIRAZ, Iran — An Iranian appeals court has sentenced civil activist Mahnoush Abdollahi to nine years in prison, with six years suspended, over charges including alleged support for Israel.
The Fars Province Court of Appeals handed Abdollahi a two-year term, with four years suspended, for “cultural, media, and promotional activities aimed at supporting, strengthening, and consolidating Israel.” She was also sentenced to one year for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” and received a two-year suspended sentence for “insulting religious sanctities.”
The ruling followed her appeal of a six-year prison sentence initially imposed by Branch One of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court. Abdollahi’s sentencing referenced her alleged “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.”
Abdollahi was arrested on July 1 and held in temporary detention before being released on bail from Adelabad Prison in Shiraz on July 13.
