The Sweden international, absent from Newcastle’s pre-season Asia tour, returns a day after the club rejected Liverpool’s £110m bid for him.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is set to resume training in England after a brief spell working individually at Real Sociedad’s Zubieta facilities, The Athletic reports.

The Sweden international, absent from Newcastle’s pre-season Asia tour, returns a day after the club rejected Liverpool’s £110m bid for him. Despite Newcastle’s stance that he is not for sale, Isak has reiterated his desire to leave.

Liverpool had earlier expressed interest in a deal worth around £120m but are said to be reconsidering after their first offer was swiftly rebuffed.

Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s friendly with Tottenham in Seoul, manager Eddie Howe said: “I really don’t know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”

Isak, who has three years left on his contract, continues to be linked with a move away this summer.
