Israel awaits Hamas’ final hostage release before ceasefire deadline

Israel expects Hamas to release all remaining hostages before Monday’s deadline, with Prime Minister Netanyahu confirming readiness to receive them amid a Trump-brokered ceasefire.

Israel is bracing for the release of the last remaining hostages held by Hamas as the Monday morning deadline approaches, according to government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian.

Speaking to reporters in Tel Aviv on Sunday, Bedrosian said that “following their release, the hostages will then be transferred across the border into Israel and taken to Re’im military base.”

She added that coffins of deceased hostages will be draped in Israeli flags before being taken for forensic identification.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Israel is “prepared and ready for the immediate reception of all our hostages,” following a meeting with Gal Hirsch, the Coordinator for the Prisoners and Missing.

Israeli media reported that Hamas has begun moving the captives to assembly points ahead of the transfer. US Vice President JD Vance told NBC’s Meet the Press that “it really should be any moment now,” though he ruled out any US military deployment.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is expected to visit Israel on Monday, where he may stop by a hospital treating the released captives.

The release follows a Trump-brokered ceasefire seen as a major step toward ending the two-year Gaza conflict.
