Israel has launched a major new offensive in Gaza, dubbed Operation Gideon Chariots, aimed at pressuring Hamas to release remaining hostages, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Saturday. “The heroism of IDF soldiers, the unity of the people and the determination of the political echelon increase the chance of the return of the hostages,” he said.

IDF spokesperson Col. Avichai Adraee said the military was intensifying air and ground assaults across Gaza, adding, “We’re expanding and increasing the bombing and pressure on Hamas throughout the Strip.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to escalate the operation until Hamas is dismantled.

The offensive has reportedly killed over 150 people in 24 hours, while Gaza’s Health Ministry claims more than 3,000 deaths since March 18. As the humanitarian crisis worsens, U.S. President Trump warned, “A lot of people are starving.”

The World Food Programme estimates 14,000 children are malnourished. “She is dying in my hands, and I can’t do anything,” said Hussain Hajaj, father of a starving child.
