Armed forces chief Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir ‘approved the main framework for the IDF’s operational plan in the Gaza Strip
Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, chief of staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, has approved the “main framework for the IDF’s operational plan in the Gaza Strip,” the military said Wednesday. The announcement follows approval from the security cabinet mandating the seizure of Gaza City.
The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has yet to disclose a timeline for troops entering Gaza City despite mounting pressure. Thousands of displaced civilians continue to shelter in the enclave’s largest urban centre.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s civil defence agency reported intensified air strikes on Zeitoun and Sabra, describing “very heavy air strikes targeting civilian homes, possibly including high-rise buildings.”
This military development underscores a significant escalation in the nearly two-year conflict, amid international concern over humanitarian conditions. Observers warn that renewed offensive operations, especially in densely populated areas, could exacerbate civilian suffering and derail efforts toward a negotiated ceasefire.
