The IDF admitted mistakenly striking Nasser Hospital in Gaza, killing at least 14 people, including Reuters journalist Hussam al-Masri.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday admitted carrying out a mistaken strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, Gaza, killing at least 14 people, including journalists. Among the dead was Reuters cameraman Hussam al-Masri, while photographer Hatem Khaled, also a Reuters contractor, was wounded. A Reuters spokesperson said, “We are devastated to learn of the death of Reuters contractor Hussam al-Masri and injuries to another of our contractors, Hatem Khaled, in Israeli strikes.” Other journalists killed were Mariam Abu Dagga, Mohammed Salama of Al Jazeera, and Moaz Abu Taha.
The IDF said the attack had been approved due to a suspected Hamas target but insisted it did not intend to harm journalists or civilians. The hospital director, Atef al-Hout, told Al-Arabiya TV the facility was treating over 1,000 patients at the time, with more than 50 people wounded. Officials said the strike is under investigation as criticism mounts over rising civilian casualties in Gaza.
