The highest number of violations committed in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank by the Israeli army
The United Nations has kept Israel on its “blacklist” of countries committing grave abuses against children in armed conflict for a second consecutive year, amid its ongoing war on Gaza. The UN’s annual report said 2024 saw an “unprecedented” rise in violence against children in conflict zones, with Gaza and the occupied West Bank recording the highest number of violations.
The report verified 41,370 grave violations globally, marking a 25% surge from 2023. Of these, 8,554 were in the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel, affecting 2,959 children — 2,944 Palestinian and 15 Israeli. It confirmed 1,259 Palestinian child deaths and 941 injuries in Gaza, with thousands more cases under verification.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he was “appalled by the intensity of grave violations against children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel.” He urged Israel to comply with international laws protecting civilians and children.
The Qassam Brigades and al-Quds Brigades were also blacklisted.
