Saudi news outlet Al Hadath has reported that Israel “knows exactly” where Iran’s enriched uranium is stored, citing an unnamed Israeli security source.
The source claimed, “Most of the enriched uranium is buried under the rubble in Iran.”
The status of Iran’s uranium stockpile remains uncertain after Israel’s 12-day preemptive campaign and U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities. IDF Spokesperson Effie Defrin said the military is “closely monitoring” any movement of enriched uranium from damaged sites.
According to The New York Times, Iran had previously moved 880 pounds of uranium enriched to 60% purity, below weapons-grade, with some stored at Isfahan. Satellite imagery showed trucks lined up near the facility before the U.S. strikes.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance, in an ABC News interview, declined to confirm the stockpile’s condition but said the Trump administration would engage Iran on the matter. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi earlier stated Iran had safeguarded the material.
Despite Israel reportedly knowing the uranium’s location, the source said Israel will not strike it to “avoid a nuclear catastrophe.” No contamination incidents have been reported from Israel’s strikes.
