At least five Palestinians were killed and 29 others injured by Israeli gunfire near an aid distribution point in southern Gaza, local reports say. The shooting occurred near Rafah as civilians gathered ahead of food distribution.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), troops issued verbal warnings and fired warning shots before opening fire, claiming the group was moving toward them and posed a threat. “The number… does not align with the information currently held by the IDF,” it stated regarding the reported casualties.

One woman at the scene said her husband was shot in the head while waiting to collect food. Four bodies were taken to Nasser hospital, while Al-Awda hospital received another and treated 29 injured.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) confirmed it had opened three aid sites that day. Israel permits movement to GHF sites only between 06:00 and 18:00, calling the area an “active combat zone” at other times.
