Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have killed at least 50 farmers in Malam Karanti village, Kukawa local government area of Borno State.
At least 50 farmers were brutally killed by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Malam Karanti village, Kukawa LGA of Borno State on Thursday. Local sources revealed the massacre occurred when rival Boko Haram factions ambushed the farmers in the ISWAP-controlled area, just 9km from Baga town. The victims had reportedly been paying protection levies to an ISWAP commander identified as Amir Akilu before the attack.
According to eyewitnesses, “The terrorists exploited their commander’s absence to attack the farmers, accusing them of spying for enemies.” The victims – mostly rice farmers and fishermen – had operated under ISWAP’s “protection” for months through a controversial taxation system common in terrorist-held territories. The gruesome incident highlights the continuing security crisis in Northeast Nigeria despite military operations.
