Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has condemned renewed attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria and urged the government to strengthen protections and prosecute those responsible.

Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has called on the Nigerian government to take firm action following renewed attacks on Christian communities, condemning the violence as “heinous” and unacceptable.

In a statement on X, she wrote, “We strongly condemn the renewed violence that took place today against Christian communities in Nigeria,” stressing that “religious freedom is an inviolable right” and urging authorities to “strengthen the protection of Christian communities and all religious communities and to prosecute those responsible for these heinous attacks.”

Meloni expressed solidarity with affected families, saying, “Italy expresses all its closeness to the victims and to the communities in Nigeria who today feel in danger because of their religious beliefs.” Her remarks follow a surge in nationwide insecurity, including Friday’s abduction of 303 pupils and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Niger State, drawing heightened international concern.
