Why Bayern Munich can field Nicolas Jackson against Chelsea despite UEFA loan rules

UEFA regulations permit Bayern Munich loanee Nicolas Jackson to play against his parent club Chelsea in Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

Bayern Munich striker Nicolas Jackson is eligible to face Chelsea in the Champions League on Wednesday despite being on loan from the London club, Goal.com reports. The 24-year-old forward joined Bayern this summer on a season-long deal but remains under contract with Chelsea.

UEFA’s competition integrity rules allow loaned players to play against their parent clubs in European competitions unless a special clause is inserted in the loan agreement. According to the report, no such restriction exists in Jackson’s contract, leaving him free to feature when the Bundesliga champions meet the Blues at the Allianz Arena.

The Senegal international, who spent last season at Stamford Bridge, could now line up against many of his former team-mates. Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to include Jackson in his matchday squad as the German giants aim for an early advantage in Group C.

Chelsea visit Munich for the first leg of the high-profile encounter scheduled for 20:00 local time on September 17, 2025.
